The Promise of Healing
Have you ever heard a person say “I swear!” when they are trying to be emphatic about something? People choose something greater than themselves by which to swear in order to validate what they are saying.
Ironically, when God made promises to Abraham, He wanted Abraham to realize He was emphatic about His promise, so God swore by Himself to validate His oath and covenant with Abraham! (Hebrews 6:13 NKJV).
When God wanted people to know He would keep His promise of healing through Messiah, He emphatically said “Surely He has born our sorrows, carried our grief and sorrow… and by His stripes we are healed”. (Isaiah 53:4 and 5 NKJV).
The Healing God wants us to know He is Jehovah-Rapha (Raphah), the God who heals (Exodus 15:26). Jesus healed sickness and disease everywhere He went, but we need to realize He made lepers whole again – that wasn’t just making the sick well, that was creative healing and miracles.
People knew they could put trust in His kindness and compassion. They saw Jesus’ miracle healing touch and were filled with hope and faith that what He did for one, He would do for another. They saw His power and they believed.
His mercy didn’t stop at just healing the sick, healing every manner of sickness and disease, and setting people free from pain by manifesting physical healing in their bodies. He announced His purpose and anointing when He went into the synagogue, stood before the congregation, unfurled the scroll of the sacred writings, and read from Isaiah 61:1-3. He then began to say to them, “Today, this prophecy is fulfilled in your hearing.” (read Luke 4:16-21). They got upset because He was reading from the passage which prophesied about Messiah, and because of what He said, they knew He was announcing that He was the long-awaited Promised One.
He was announcing, through that Scripture, that He also came to offer emotional healing (heal the broken-hearted) and inner healing (set the captives free: both in Isaiah 61:1).
Jesus is the Healer. Our healing is being offered to us today by God through Christ Jesus. John 1:1 clarifies about the Word – clearly God and His Word are One, and that passage leaves no room for doubt! (“In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God”).
Psalm 107:20 lets us know He sent His Word and healed us. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh and revealed to us! (John 1:14). Jesus is God’s power and persona visiting us in an ‘earth-suit’ and moving among us.
He sent His Word and healed us and delivered us from our destruction (Psalm 107:20). Without God’s loving power and kindness, humanity exhibits a propensity for being on a path of self destruction. BUT GOD offers all provision, love, compassion, and power we could ever need. All we hunger for and need, whether it is inner healing, emotional healing, or physical healing – it can all be found in His Word. The answers are only a prayer away and can be obtained by studying and receiving His promises.
